『What is the winemaker Vandal? 』
A secret project launched in 2016 by three Marlborough-based winemakers to "break down Marlborough's traditional wine style and open up new possibilities."
Wines were fermented with natural yeast, and we are taking on the challenge of making wine in order to open up new possibilities in the style of Marlborough wine with free thinking and a natural approach.
Make no mistake, these wines will not be everyone ’s cup of tea, but at least give them a go, we dare you…
[White wine: Vandal Gonzo Millisha 2019]
We use seven types of grapes harvested on the same day from the same vineyard on the gentle north-facing slopes of the Southern Valley hills. There are three types of red wine grapes, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Tempranillo, and four types of white wine grapes, Viognier, Pinot Noir, Riesling, and Chardonnay. Red and white I'm mixing so many different types! I'm also curious about what it tastes like.
The grapes are harvested by hand and then squeezed. After contacting the peel and grape juice for 24 hours, it is fermented with natural yeast in 100% French old barrels. It is also 100% malolactic fermented and left to rest for 4 months with all the starch. It was bottled with no filtration, no clarification, and only a very small amount of antioxidant (SO2) added. This is also a super limited production of only 200 cases!
(* Slight foaming may occur depending on the timing of unplugging due to the residual sugar left intentionally.)
Super limited production of only 200 cases.
